Situated at 6363 Willow Ln in the heart of Dallas, Texas, the Dallas Texas Temple stands as the 30th dedicated temple in operation. This house of the Lord is notable not only for its architectural beauty but also for its significance to the local community and beyond.
The Dallas Texas Temple: A Celestial Landmark
The journey to establishing the Dallas Texas Temple began with its announcement on April 1, 1981. The groundbreaking and dedication occurred on January 22, 1983, led by the Prophet Gordon B. Hinckley. He remarked on the day of the dedication, emphasizing the importance of this house of the Lord within Texas’s vast landscape. The public open house was held from September 7 to September 26, 1984, during which over 88,000 people toured the temple. Ultimately, the temple was dedicated from October 19 to October 24, 1984, again presided over by Prophet Hinckley. Its first rededication took place on March 5, 1989.
Architectural Features
The Dallas Texas Temple is a medium-sized house of the Lord, encompassing 44,207 square feet and reaching a height of 95 feet at an elevation of 617 feet. It features an exterior finished with light-colored marble tiles and is topped with a dark gray slate roof. One of its most distinctive architectural elements is the six detached spires, crowned with an angel Moroni statue. Inside, the space includes five instruction rooms, four sealing rooms, and one baptistry.
Improvements and Enhancements Dallas Texas Temple
Over the years, there have been several enhancements to the Dallas Texas Temple. In 1987, it closed for remodeling, resulting in an additional 22,749 square feet. This expansion included a new ordinance room, a cafeteria, expanded laundry facilities, and a relocated baptistry. More recently, a renovation of the temple grounds was completed in June 2006, which revamped several features. The monument sign was relocated outside the decorative fence, while the fence itself was updated along the front side of the property. The entry plaza was enlarged and new stairs were added for improved access. A cascading fountain replaced the previous water feature, with larger flower beds and widened walkways that now feature better lighting and seating areas.

At the dedication of the Dallas Texas Temple, President Gordon B. Hinckley noted the structure’s unique significance, stating there were many larger and more costly houses in Texas, yet this one stood out as the most meaningful in the Lone Star State.
