LDS Temple News Presents Fort Lauderdale Flordia Temple a House of the Lord

The Fort Lauderdale Florida Temple is more than just a stunning architectural marvel; it’s a vibrant hub of culture and spirituality with a captivating history. Announced on October 3, 2009, the temple took its first steps toward realization with a groundbreaking ceremony on July 18, 2011, led by Walter F. Gonzalez. After years of eager anticipation, it opened its doors to the public from March 19 to April 19, 2014, before being dedicated by Dieter F. Uchtdorf on May 4, 2014.

Nestled on a picturesque 16.82-acre site in Davie, this temple stands out with its striking precast concrete exterior and a magnificent 99-foot spire that is topped with a gleaming gold-leafed Angel Moroni. Inside, visitors can explore two instructional rooms, three sealing rooms, and a vibrant baptistry, all within a generous 30,500 square feet of sacred space. The artistic motifs throughout the temple, inspired by the local landscapes, feature beautiful sun and palm tree designs, all blended seamlessly with elegant Neoclassical architectural elements such as arches and columns. It’s a feast for the eyes and a peaceful retreat for the spirit!

What makes the temple even more special is the story behind the land it occupies. Originally zoned for a middle school in 2003, the site’s purpose changed as the Broward County School Board decided not to move forward with those plans by 2009. That’s when the Church expressed interest in acquiring the property. After navigating through the necessary approvals and zoning amendments—transforming the land from a community facility to one that accommodates the temple—the stage was set for this magnificent building to take shape.

Conveniently located just north of Griffin Road and Interstate 75, with the tranquil Robbins – Vista View Trail bordering the property along Shotgun Road, the temple serves as a place of worship and a serene escape for the community. Its grand design and unique history not only enhance the South Florida landscape but also invite all to experience its beauty and tranquility. Whether you’re seeking inspiration, a peaceful moment, or simply want to admire the architecture, the Fort Lauderdale Florida Temple is a must-visit!
