Have you ever had the chance to visit the stunning Fort Lauderdale Florida Temple? It’s not only an architectural marvel but also a significant cultural landmark with a captivating history! Announced on October 3, 2009, this magnificent temple began its journey with a groundbreaking ceremony on July 18, 2011, led by Walter F. Gonzalez. After several years of anticipation, it finally opened its doors to the public between March 19 and April 19, 2014, before being dedicated by Dieter F. Uchtdorf on May 4, 2014.

Nestled on a beautiful 16.82-acre site in Davie, this temple features an eye-catching precast concrete exterior and stands tall at 99 feet, topped with a gleaming gold-leafed Angel Moroni. Inside, it boasts two instruction rooms, three sealing rooms, and a baptistry, all encompassing a generous 30,500 square feet of sacred space. The design reflects Florida’s vibrant landscapes, with artistic motifs of suns and palm trees blended seamlessly with elegant Neoclassical elements like arches and columns. This creates a unique atmosphere that is both inviting and spiritually uplifting.

What’s fascinating is the history of the land itself. Originally intended for a middle school in 2003, the plans were scrapped as needs changed, and by 2009, the Broward County School Board decided not to pursue it. This opened the door for the Church to express interest in acquiring the site. With a Notice of Termination to the School Board and the payment of educational impact fees, the way was paved for the temple’s construction. An amendment to the use agreement modified the zoning from community facility to properly accommodate the temple, while still allowing for future residential development nearby.

Strategically located just north of Griffin Road and Interstate 75, with the peaceful Robbins – Vista View Trail bordering the property along Shotgun Road, the temple serves as more than just a house of worship; it’s a serene retreat for the community. Its grand design, coupled with its unique history, contributes to its role as a centerpiece in the spiritual landscape of South Florida. Whether you’re seeking tranquility, spirituality, or simply a beautiful place to explore, the Fort Lauderdale Florida Temple is definitely worth a visit!
