LDS Temple News Presents Fort Lauderdale Flordia Temple
Discover the enchanting Fort Lauderdale Florida Temple, a captivating landmark that beautifully weaves together architectural elegance and rich history! Officially announced on October 3, 2009, this stunning temple began its journey with a groundbreaking ceremony led by Walter F. Gonzalez on July 18, 2011. After years of excitement and anticipation, it opened its doors to the public from March 19 to April 19, 2014, before being formally dedicated by Dieter F. Uchtdorf on May 4, 2014.
Set on a sprawling 16.82-acre site in Davie, this architectural masterpiece features a striking precast concrete exterior and a magnificent 99-foot spire topped with a gleaming gold-leafed Angel Moroni. The interior is equally impressive, with 30,500 square feet of sacred space that includes two instruction rooms, three sealing rooms, and a baptistry. The artistic motifs showcased throughout the temple draw inspiration from the lush local landscapes, incorporating delightful sun and palm tree designs that harmonize perfectly with the grandeur of Neoclassical architectural elements like arches and columns.
But what about the land itself? It comes with an intriguing backstory! Originally intended for a middle school back in 2003, the site saw a shift in plans when the Broward County School Board opted not to pursue those educational developments by 2009. That’s when the Church expressed interest, paving the way for the temple’s construction after a Notice of Termination was issued and educational impact fees were settled. The zoning was even amended to accommodate both the temple and future residential development in the area.
Conveniently located just north of Griffin Road and Interstate 75, with the scenic Robbins – Vista View Trail bordering the property along Shotgun Road, the Fort Lauderdale Florida Temple serves as a peaceful sanctuary for the community. With its grand design and historical significance, it stands as a central piece in the spiritual landscape of South Florida, inviting visitors to explore, reflect, and experience a slice of tranquility right in the heart of the community. Why not plan a visit? It’s a wonderful opportunity to soak in the beauty and serenity of this remarkable temple!
