LDS Temple News Presents Grand Junction Colorado Temple

Get ready to fall in love with the beautiful Grand Junction Colorado Temple! This architectural gem sits on 7.93 acres and stands tall at 118 feet, crowned with a charming central spire. Nestled at an elevation of 4,962 feet, it’s a sight that simply takes your breath away.

The excitement for this Temple started back on April 4, 2021, when Prophet Russell M. Nelson shared the plans during the 191st Annual General Conference. For Latter-day Saints who have called Colorado home since 1896, this announcement was a moment to celebrate. With over 150,000 members and around 310 congregations in the area, the anticipation in the community has been buzzing! This Temple is the third of its kind in Colorado, and it’s going to be a wonderful spiritual retreat.

You’ll find the Temple in a picturesque spot, right at the lively intersection of Horizon Drive and North 12th Street—just a hop away from an Interstate 70 interchange! The exterior rendering was unveiled on September 17, 2021, and it truly sparked excitement about what was in store.

On a sunny Saturday, April 16, 2022, Elder Chi Hong (Sam) Wong of the Quorum of the Seventy led the groundbreaking ceremony, marking the beginning of this inspiring new chapter. Spanning an impressive 29,630 square feet, the Temple is designed to be a beautiful space for Temple and reflection. During the dedicatory prayer, Elder Wong expressed heartfelt gratitude for the Atonement of Jesus Christ, dedicating the ground for generations to come.

Get your calendars out because there are some exciting dates coming up! A fun media day will happen on September 8, 2025, along with two exclusive days of tours for invited guests. And then, from September 11 to September 27, everyone will be invited for public tours! The grand dedication is set for October 19, 2025, led by President Jeffrey R. Holland and broadcast to all temple district units—what a wonderful way to unite the community in celebration!

Step inside and prepare to be amazed by a design that honors the stunning natural beauty of western Colorado. With decorative elements inspired by the local claret cup cactus, Indian paintbrush, and cliffrose blooms, the Temple beautifully connects nature with spirituality. The striking structure, finished in Portuguese Pedras Salgadas granite, glows warmly in its high-desert surroundings.

Inside, you’ll find custom-designed carpets by Bentley Mills in warm colors and organic patterns reflecting the local landscape. The interior bursts with vibrant shades of crimson, amber, green, and pale pink, echoing the gorgeous flora around us. Elegant Mineo marble flooring meets vibrant accent stones, creating an inviting experience reminiscent of our lovely southwestern canyons.

Marvel at the solid wood doors featuring delightful peach blossom designs and beautiful antique brass hardware. Crystal chandeliers and fixtures light up sacred spaces, including the bride’s room and sealing rooms, inviting you to soak in the elegant atmosphere.

The craftsmanship continues throughout the Temple, with millwork made from African sapele hardwood featuring intricate designs that pay tribute to the fruitful orchards of the region. The baptismal font railing showcases a stunning geometric motif reminiscent of the intertwining rivers of Grand Junction, accented with lovely claret cup blossoms.

Don’t miss the gorgeous art glass that brings together the vivid crimson of the claret cup with shades of amber, green, and pale pink, telling a beautiful story about the local plants. Inside, you’ll discover striking artwork by Ken Stockton and Wilson Hurley, capturing the immense beauty of the American West.
