Great news is on the horizon for the people of Zimbabwe! The Harare Zimbabwe Temple was announced on April 3, 2016, during the 186th Annual General Conference by the esteemed Prophet Thomas S. Monson. This marked the beginning of an incredible journey toward creating a significant place of Temple Work and community for the faithful.
On December 12, 2020, we celebrated a monumental moment with the groundbreaking ceremony led by Elder Edward Dube, a distinguished native son and 1st Counselor in the African South Area Presidency. His inspiring words—“As we watch the rising of this building from the ground up, may we also turn our hearts upward to Thee and Thy Son, our Savior Jesus Christ”—set a powerful tone for what this temple represents. The support from President Mnangagwa during the ceremony underscored the Church’s vital role in contributing to national development and the well-being of our society. At the groundbreaking ceremony was President of the Republic of Zimbabwe, was also in attendance. President Mnangagwa praised the Church in his remarks, saying, “The contribution of the Church to national development and social well being of the citizenry cannot be overemphasized.”
Get ready for something truly spectacular! The Harare Zimbabwe Temple will have its Public Open House from January 22 to February 7, 2026. This is an exciting opportunity for everyone to explore this remarkable new Temple at 65 Enterprise Road, Highlands, Harare. Spanning 6.7 acres and standing tall at 103 feet 4 inches, this temple features a striking single attached end spire, although it will not have a gold-leafed Angel Moroni. Inside, you’ll find two Instruction Rooms, two Sealing Rooms, and one baptistry, totaling an impressive 17,247 square feet!
The artistic rendering of the temple was unveiled on October 1, 2020, generating enthusiasm across the community. The arrival of this temple is a game changer, especially since it will significantly reduce travel time for members patrons previously faced a 13-hour journey to reach the Johannesburg South African Temple. As the first temple in our beautiful Zimbabwe and the eighth in Africa, the Harare Zimbabwe Temple stands as a testament to the growth and strength of our local community, which includes approximately 26,000 members across six stakes and two districts.
On April 17, 2018, Prophet Russell M. Nelson visited the temple site during his tour, further heightening the anticipation surrounding this significant Temple. The Harare Zimbabwe Temple is more than just a structure; it embodies hope, unity, and spiritual growth for all of us. We are eagerly looking forward to witnessing the rise of this beautifulcent Temple and the positive impact it will have on our lives and community!
