The Hartford Connecticut Temple was announced on October 2, 2010, by Prophet Thomas S. Monson during the General Conference. The anticipation surrounding its construction has deep roots; plans for a Temple in Hartford were first revealed 18 years earlier but were temporarily set aside. Instead, two other Temples were constructed—one in Boston, Massachusetts, and another in White Plains, New York, which would later become known as the Harrison New York Temple. The announcement for the Hartford Connecticut Temple was finally made at the opening session of the 180th Semiannual General Conference on August 17, 2023.
A public open house occurred from September 30 to October 22, 2016, allowing many to appreciate the Temple’s beauty before its dedication. On November 20, 2016, the Temple was dedicated by Apostle Henry B. Eyring, who stated, “We rejoice in this beautiful building that stands as a testimony of faith and spirituality.”

Built on 11.3 acres, the Hartford Connecticut Temple features a granite exterior, reflecting dignity and permanence. One of its most striking architectural features is the single attached end spire topped with a Gold-leafed Angel Moroni statue.

With a total area of 32,246 square feet, the Temple reaches a height of 117.2 feet and sits at an elevation of 179 feet. It is primarily a single-story design, showcasing a variety of unique features:
- Instruction Rooms: The second instruction room boasts shades made of hand-blown crystal, contributing to a serene environment.
- Celestial and Sealing Rooms: These rooms are adorned with chandeliers designed by Schonbek of New York City, made from brass and Austrian Swarovski crystal.
- Entryway & Baptistry: Modified Georgian-style fixtures designed by FFKR Architects add to the aesthetic appeal of these spaces.
The interior is enhanced with classic art glass designs for the windows, inspired by historical divided light fixtures, which feature elegant geometric lines and delicate floral motifs. Additionally, original wall murals painted by artist Brad Aldridge celebrate local landscapes, honoring the natural beauty and history of the Connecticut countryside.
