The announcement of the Hartford Connecticut Temple came on October 2, 2010, by Prophet Thomas S. Monson during the General Conference. After an extensive wait of nearly 18 years since initial discussions in General Conference about a Temple in Hartford, groundbreaking occurred on August 17, 2023, with construction initiated following the announcement made at the 180th Semiannual General Conference. Notably, earlier plans for the Hartford location were set aside in favor of two other Temples—one in Boston, Massachusetts, and the other in White Plains, New York, known today as the Harrison New York Temple.

A public open house greeted attendees from September 30 to October 22, 2016, showcasing the Temple before its dedication. On November 20, 2016, the Apostle Henry B. Eyring dedicated the Hartford Connecticut Temple, emphasizing its importance and the joy it brings to those in the area.

Constructed on an impressive 11.3 acres, the Hartford Connecticut Temple features stunning granite as its exterior finish. Its architectural design includes a single attached end spire crowned with a gold-leafed Angel Moroni statue.
