LDS Temple News Presents Helena Montana Temple a House of the Lord

Let’s embark on an exciting journey through the story of the Helena Montana Temple, a spiritual landmark that symbolizes hope and community for many! Announced by President Russell M. Nelson during the 191st Annual General Conference on April 4, 2021, this temple represents a significant step for the over 50,000 Latter-day Saints in Montana.

The anticipation reached a thrilling peak on June 26, 2021, when Elder Vern P. Stanfill of the Seventy presided over the groundbreaking ceremony. Standing in the shadow of Montana’s stunning mountains, he reflected on the rich legacy of those who had hoped and worked hard for this day. His heartfelt words captured the essence of faith and dedication that this temple embodies: “Theirs is a legacy of faith and discipleship of the Savior.”

The Helena Montana Temple is situated on a beautiful 4.8-acre site at 1260 Otter Road, right next to a modern stake center. Measured at 10,000 square feet, this elegant temple was designed to be built relatively quickly, much to the excitement of the community. Elder Stanfill expressed his wish for everyone who sees the temple to recognize it as a blessing and come to understand its significance in their lives.

On April 20, 2021, the official location of the temple was confirmed as a 4.75-acre site at 1230 Otter Road, the original location of the Helena Montana Stake center, which was subsequently razed and rebuilt alongside the temple. As construction progressed, the excitement grew, leading to a special open house that kicked off on May 15, 2023. Invited guests were among the first to tour the temple, followed by public tours from May 18 to June 3, allowing the community to engage deeply with their new spiritual home.

The grand dedication of the Helena Montana Temple took place on June 18, 2023, in two uplifting sessions led by Elder Gary E. Stevenson of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles. As the first temple constructed using modular construction techniques, this temple showcases innovative architectural practices alongside its remarkable design.

The temple features stunning deco stone cladding and includes a distinct single attached central tower. Inside, the Helena Montana Temple boasts one instruction room, a sealing room, and a baptistry, all within 9,794 square feet. Rising to a height of 96 feet 9 inches and set at an elevation of 3,768 feet, it stands as a breathtaking symbol of faith, resilience, and community.

Whether you’re a lifelong resident or just visiting, the Helena Montana Temple offers a unique opportunity to experience its beauty and the rich spirit of devotion that surrounds it. It’s more than just a building; it is a sacred space where the faithful gather, and an inspiring source of strength and hope for the entire community.
