Welcome to the beautiful Indianapolis Indiana Temple, a true gem in the heart of Indiana! Announced on October 2, 2010, this remarkable building is not only the first temple in the state but also a place that fosters community and spiritual connection.

Spanning an impressive 34,000 square feet, the temple stands proudly at 106.4 feet high and reaches an elevation of 849 feet. Its striking architecture is instantly recognizable, featuring a single attached end tower topped with a stunning gold-leafed angel Moroni statue. The design draws inspiration from iconic local landmarks, like the Indiana World War Memorial and the Soldiers’ and Sailors’ Monument, giving it a unique and familiar feel that blends beautifully with the city’s landscape.

The journey to this magnificent temple began with a groundbreaking ceremony on September 29, 2012, led by Elder Donald L. Hallstrom of the Presidency of the Seventy. After years of hard work and anticipation, it opened its doors to the public for a memorable house tour from July 17 to August 8, 2015. The excitement culminated in its dedication by Apostle Henry B. Eyring on August 23, 2015, celebrating a new spiritual home for many.

As you step inside, you’ll find two instruction rooms, two sealing rooms, and a baptistry, all designed with a warm and inviting atmosphere in mind. One of the standout features is the stunning stained glass windows, which showcase a delightful motif of intertwining Celtic knots and floral patterns inspired by the tulip poplar, Indiana’s state tree. These colorful windows filter light beautifully, creating an uplifting and peaceful environment.

The exterior is crafted from durable structural steel and concrete, elegantly finished with Aero Cream Limestone from Turkey—a material that adds a touch of timeless elegance. The beautifully landscaped grounds feature a variety of Indiana-native plants and trees, enhancing the temple’s connection to the natural beauty of its location.

Inside, you’ll appreciate the luxurious marble flooring, including Perlatino, Sahara Beige, and Arctic Grey marbles, which create an atmosphere of sophistication. The warm cherry wood details found throughout complement the marble and give the interior a cozy feel. Intricate carvings that reflect themes like the circle within a square and the tulip poplar blossom add thoughtful touches, making each corner of the temple a delight to explore.

The Indianapolis Indiana Temple is not just a beautiful architectural feat; it’s a vibrant space where individuals can come together to worship, celebrate, and grow in their faith. Whether you’re a member of the community or just passing through, the temple offers a warm welcome and a serene place to reflect and connect. It’s a wonderful testament to the strength of community and the spirit of Indianapolis, and it continues to inspire all who visit. Come experience it for yourself!
