Exciting News About the Layton Utah Temple!
We have some wonderful news to share! During the Sunday Afternoon Session of the 188th Annual General Conference, President Russell M. Nelson announced that the Layton Utah Temple is officially on its way! First revealed on April 1, 2018, this beautiful temple promises to be a special place for all of us in the community.
Just imagine the breathtaking sight of the Layton Utah Temple with its two beautiful spires and that stunning gold-leafed angel Moroni statue at the top! With a generous space of 93,539 square feet, the temple will include four instruction rooms, six sealing rooms, and a lovely baptistry, all designed to create sacred experiences. Standing at 215 feet tall and sitting at an elevation of 4,468 feet, it will be a remarkable addition to the landscape, located on an 11.8-acre pasture at the corner of Oak Hills Drive and Rosewood Lane in Layton.
Did you know this is the twenty-second temple built in Utah and the second in Davis County? The first was our beloved Bountiful Utah Temple! Everyone in the community was thrilled when the official exterior rendering was unveiled on October 8, 2019, giving us a sneak peek at the beauty we can expect.
At the groundbreaking ceremony on May 23, 2020, Elder Craig C. Christensen, the president of the Utah Area, expressed his gratitude, saying, “We are very grateful to join you from this impressive and beautiful site. Like every temple, it is the product of the faith of Latter-day Saints who live in this area and around the world.” His words really captured the spirit of our faith and commitment. Elder Randy D. Funk, who offered a dedicatory prayer, prayed that this temple would be “a beacon of light for the entire community and a blessing for all.” Isn’t that lovely?
Mark your calendars for a special day! Elder David A. Bednar of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles will lead the dedication of the Layton Utah Temple on Sunday, June 16, 2024. There will be two sessions broadcast live at 10:00 a.m. and 1:30 p.m., so everyone in the temple district can join in the celebration! Before the dedication, we’ll have a public open house from April 19 through June 1, 2024 (excluding Sundays), where you can come and see the temple for yourself. Plus, on April 15, a media day will allow some special guests to tour the temple before it opens to the public!
The Layton Utah Temple is more than just a building; it’s a place of hope, joy, and community for all of us. We can’t wait to see it become a cherished part of our lives and bring blessings to everyone in Layton and beyond!
