Exciting News: The Layton Utah Temple is Coming to Town!

We have some thrilling news to share! During the recent Sunday Afternoon Session of the 188th Annual General Conference, President Russell M. Nelson announced the construction of the Layton Utah Temple, and it’s sure to bring joy to our community! First shared on April 1, 2018, this beautiful temple signifies hope and faith for all of us.

Just picture it: the Layton Utah Temple will feature stunning twin spires topped with a golden angel Moroni statue that will gleam in the sunshine! With a spacious 93,539 square feet, it will include four instruction rooms, six sealing rooms, and a lovely baptistry where our most cherished moments can take place. Standing tall at 215 feet and nestled at an elevation of 4,468 feet, the temple will sit on a picturesque 11.8-acre pasture located at the corner of Oak Hills Drive and Rosewood Lane in Layton.

This temple is particularly special as it will be the twenty-second temple built in Utah and the second in Davis County—after the beloved Bountiful Utah Temple. We were all excited when the official exterior rendering was shared on October 8, 2019, giving us a sneak peek of what’s to come!

At the groundbreaking ceremony on May 23, 2020, we gathered together to celebrate this milestone. Elder Craig C. Christensen, president of the Utah Area, expressed his heartfelt sentiments, saying, “We are very grateful to join you from this impressive and beautiful site. Like every temple, it is the product of the faith of Latter-day Saints who live in this area and around the world.” He beautifully highlighted how this temple represents our trust in Heavenly Father’s wonderful plan for us. Elder Randy D. Funk, the first counselor in the Area Presidency, offered a lovely dedicatory prayer, asking for the temple to shine as “a beacon of light for the entire community and a blessing for all.”

Mark your calendars for a very special occasion! Elder David A. Bednar of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles will preside over the dedication of the Layton Utah Temple on Sunday, June 16, 2024. There will be two live broadcast sessions at 10:00 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. for everyone in the temple district. Before the dedication, we’re excited to invite you to a public open house from April 19 to June 1, 2024, except on Sundays. Plus, on April 15, selected media will enjoy an exclusive preview, and invited guests will have guided tours from April 16 to April 18.

The Layton Utah Temple will enhance our community and enrich our lives in countless ways. We can’t wait to welcome this beautiful place of worship and all the blessings it will bring to Layton and beyond! Let’s get ready to celebrate together!
