President Russell M. Nelson announced the McAllen Texas Temple on October 5, 2019. The essential groundwork commenced with a site dedication on November 21, 2020, officiated by Art Rascon. This marked an important milestone for the local members and all those who envisioned the McAllen Texas Temple.
Public Open House and Dedication
Following the completion of construction, the McAllen Texas Temple held a public open house from August 25 to September 9, 2023. The dedication took place on October 8, 2023, led by Apostle Dieter F. Uchtdorf. This sequence of events has been a momentous occasion for many.
Architectural Overview
The McAllen Texas Temple spans across 10.61 acres. It features a single-story building with a total floor area of 27,897 square feet. The total height reaches an impressive 108 feet, while the elevation sits at 107 feet. The architectural design includes a single attached central tower, highlighting its distinctive profile.
Exterior and Interior Features
Crafted from beige precast concrete panels by Gate Precast of Hillsboro, Texas, the exterior finish offers both durability and elegance. Inside, soft-gold broadloom carpet adorns the general areas and instruction rooms, creating a warm and inviting atmosphere. The celestial and sealing rooms feature wall-to-wall wool rugs, while vibrant blue, gold, and green area rugs add splashes of color throughout.
Facilities and Amenities
The McAllen Texas Temple is well-equipped with various facilities, comprising two instruction rooms, two sealing rooms, and one baptistry. Additionally, a meetinghouse of over 19,000 square feet is set to be built on the same property. This will accommodate three wards, a stake suite, mission offices, and a distribution center.
Significance in Texas
Notably, the McAllen Texas Temple marks the fifth such facility constructed in Texas. On August 28, 2020, an official exterior rendering was revealed, offering a glimpse into its beautiful design and layout.
