Exciting news is unfolding in the heart of California’s Central Valley! The Modesto California Temple, set to be the 10th temple in the Golden State, promises to be a stunning addition to the landscape. Drawing from its Spanish roots, the name “Modesto” reflects the city’s rich agricultural heritage, making it a fitting home for this sacred structure.
As construction progresses, the temple’s exterior cladding is nearing completion, and landscaping is well underway. The perimeter masonry wall is almost finished, and the interior millwork is bustling with activity. The grand opening is projected for mid to late 2026, with an open house and dedication anticipated a few months after the final touches are made.
Architecturally, the Modesto California Temple features a striking design that includes a central tower—a symbolic beacon for the community. Inside, it will house two instruction rooms, two sealing rooms, and a baptistry, providing a sacred space for worship and reflection. Perched at an elevation of 81 feet, this temple will stand as a spiritual monument for the area’s 755,000 Latter-day Saints and over 1,200 congregations in California.
The groundbreaking ceremony, held on October 7, 2023, was led by Elder Gary B. Sabin, a General Authority of the Church, who offered a heartfelt dedicatory prayer. Adding to the convenience for temple-goers, the Modesto California Temple will share its parking lot with the adjacent meeting house, located at 4300 Dale Rd.
Mark your calendars! The official rendering of this beautiful temple was unveiled on December 19, 2022, giving the community a glimpse of what to expect. With its sprawling 17.63 acres and an impressive 30,000 square feet of space, the Modesto California Temple is set to become a cherished landmark and a spiritual refuge for years to come. Keep an eye out for updates as we eagerly await this exciting addition to our community!
