Nestled in the heart of Moses Lake, Washington, the recently dedicated Moses Lake Washington Temple stands as the 182nd sacred temple in operation. Its journey began with an announcement by the beloved Prophet Russell M. Nelson during the 189th Annual General Conference.
After much anticipation, the temple opened its doors for a grand public open house, welcoming an astonishing 290,000 visitors from August 4 to August 19, 2023. It’s a gathering that showcased both the community’s excitement and the beauty of this new spiritual landmark.
Construction plans were first unveiled on April 7, 2020, featuring a stunning single-story design that spans approximately 20,000 square feet, topped with an eye-catching central spire. Right next door, a meetinghouse of about 17,000 square feet complements the temple’s architecture.
The temple, dedicated on September 17, 2023, by Apostle Quentin L. Cook, sits majestically on 17 acres of land at an elevation of 1,157 feet, soaring to a height of 117 feet. Its exterior is adorned with Branco Cristal granite, carefully quarried from Portugal, while the building itself showcases robust insulated concrete forms, a steel roof, and that signature spire reaching for the sky.
Artistry flows throughout the temple, with a blossom motif and prairie-style border pattern that pays homage to the Native American heritage of the Moses Lake area. Inside, visitors are greeted by floors crafted from marble, carpet, and porcelain tile, alongside exquisite details such as bronze and glass railings that frame the baptismal font. The cherry-finished doors, made from wood native to North America, and the delicate decorative hardware in bronze and brass add a touch of warmth and elegance.
Each room in the temple is thoughtfully designed, housing two instruction rooms, two sealing rooms, and a beautifully appointed baptismal area. The celestial room is a highlight, featuring a stunning ceiling embellished with decorative paint, coffers, and a dome, inviting contemplation and reflection.
