LDS Temple News Presents Oklahoma City Oklahoma Temple a House of the Lord

Nestled in the heart of Yukon, Oklahoma, the Oklahoma City Oklahoma Temple stands as a stunning testament to faith and community. Dedicated as the 95th temple in operation, this beautiful structure opened its doors to the public from July 8 to July 22, 2000, and has since become a cherished landmark for many in the region.

The temple’s journey began with its announcement on March 14, 1999, followed by a momentous groundbreaking on July 3 of the same year, officiated by Elder Rex D. Pinegar. A remarkable architectural gem, the temple features a classic modern design characterized by its elegant beige limestone exterior and a striking spire topped with a gold-leafed Angel Moroni statue. At 83 feet 9 inches tall and perched at an elevation of 1,202 feet, it truly captures the eye and spirit.

Inside, visitors are welcomed by serene spaces adorned with luxurious Italian marble finishes. The temple houses two instruction rooms, two sealing rooms, and a baptistry, catering to the diverse spiritual needs of its community. When dedicated, it served around 9,000 temple district members and has played a crucial role in spiritual life across Oklahoma, Kansas, Arkansas, and Missouri.

After undergoing extensive renovations from October 15, 2017, to May 19, 2019, the temple reopened with a second dedication led by Apostle Henry B. Eyring. This renovation restored the temple to its original glory, enhancing its serene grounds, complete with a tranquil fountain, making it an inviting space for reflection and worship.

The first president of the Oklahoma City Temple, H. Jerrell Chesney, helped establish its foundational role in the community. This beautiful sanctuary is not just a place of worship; it is a beacon of hope, strength, and unity, embodying the spirit of those it serves. Whether you are a member of the church or simply passing by, the Oklahoma City Oklahoma Temple offers a moment of peace and inspiration to all who visit.
