Nestled in the picturesque Orem, Utah, the Orem Utah Temple is a beautiful sanctuary that serves as the 188th dedicated temple of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. You can find it at 1451 S 1100 W, right in the heart of a community that’s been growing rapidly!
The excitement for the temple kicked off on October 5, 2019, when it was announced, making many local members jump for joy. Fast forward to September 5, 2020, and we celebrated the groundbreaking ceremony, which was a heartfelt event led by Elder Craig C. Christensen. Even though Covid-19 kept things small, it was a memorable day for everyone involved, especially with family members from the Williamson family—who originally sold the land—present to witness this special moment.
After years of anticipation, the community finally got to peek inside during the public open house, which ran from October 27 to December 16, 2023. This stunning temple is spread out over 15.39 acres and features gorgeous pedras salgadas granite from Portugal, giving it a warm and inviting look. You’ll also notice lovely bronze-colored doors that greet visitors with a friendly welcome.
The architecture is truly one-of-a-kind! The temple features a graceful three-story design topped with a slender spire that stands tall and proud. Inside, there’s plenty of space to find peace, with 71,998 square feet dedicated to four instruction rooms, four sealing rooms, and one baptistry, each designed to help you feel right at home.
One of the coolest aspects of the temple is its gorgeous windows! They are adorned with taupe-hued art glass that showcases beautiful cherry blossoms and scenes of the wetlands around Utah Lake, creating a lovely connection to the stunning nature that surrounds us. And don’t miss out on the interior—it’s dressed in elegant Crema Marfil marble from Turkey, featuring eye-catching patterns in warm shades of cream, red, green, and brown that create a serene atmosphere.
The landscaping around the temple is also a sight to behold, with colorful plants like Norwegian sunset maples and snow queen hydrangeas adding charm and beauty to the space. It’s a lovely spot to take a stroll or just sit and reflect!
Elder Christensen beautifully shared that the Orem Utah Temple would serve as “an added refuge of strength in an increasingly uncertain world.” It’s a place where everyone can come together to find support and grow in their faith. With 26 stakes in the area at the time of the announcement, the temple is a beacon of hope and community connection, welcoming all who enter.
