The journey toward creating the Palmyra New York Temple began with its announcement on February 21, 1999. After nearly a year of anticipation, the groundbreaking and site dedication took place on May 25, 1999, officiated by Prophet Gordon B. Hinckley. The public was afforded the opportunity to explore this new Temple during an open house from March 25 through April 1, 2000. Ultimately, the official dedication occurred on April 6, 2000, marking an important milestone as it was dedicated exactly 170 years after the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints was organized in Fayette, New York.

The Palmyra New York Temple is built on 5 acres and features a stunning exterior finish of Bethel white granite. Its architectural design includes a single attached spire topped with a gold-leaded angel Moroni statue, a common emblem in LDS Temples.
Inside, the Palmyra New York Temple is thoughtfully designed, encompassing 10,900 square feet. It includes two instruction rooms, two sealing rooms, and a baptistry, providing essential spaces for various activities important to the faith.
