LDS Temple News Presents Pittsburgh Pennsylvania Temple a House of the Lord

Welcome to the Pittsburgh Pennsylvania Temple, the 196th dedicated temple in our vibrant community! Located at 2093 Powell Road in Cranberry Township, this remarkable structure is not just a building; it’s a beacon of hope and faith for Latter-day Saints in the region.

The excitement began on April 5, 2020, with a powerful announcement from Prophet Russell M. Nelson, igniting enthusiasm among the faithful. The groundbreaking on August 21, 2021, led by Elder Randall K. Bennett, marked a significant milestone, where he inspired everyone to use the day for “emotional and spiritual building” in their lives and families—a sentiment that resonated deeply.

Get ready—this beautiful temple will open its doors for a public open house from August 16 to August 31, 2024! It’s an exceptional opportunity for the community to explore its stunning design before its dedication on September 15, 2024, by Apostle Dieter F. Uchtdorf. Expect a memorable day of celebration!

Spanning an impressive 5.8 acres, the temple features a majestic exterior finished with exquisite granite from Portugal. Its unique architectural design, highlighted by a striking single attached central spire, adds to its grandeur—set apart by the absence of a gold-leafed Angel Moroni statue, making it truly distinctive.

Inside, you’ll discover a spacious 32,240 square feet, showcasing two instruction rooms, two sealing rooms, and a beautifully designed baptistry, all crafted to cultivate a sacred atmosphere. The inviting green-patterned carpet and soft gold accents throughout, paired with cozy nylon rugs in the entry and waiting areas, create a warm and welcoming environment.

The interior is adorned with luxurious Crema Ella marble from Turkey, elevating the overall elegance. Don’t miss the celestial room, featuring a captivating organic leaf pattern, inviting all who enter to pause and reflect. The sealing room and celestial room shine with exquisite crystal chandeliers, enhanced by frosted glass lighting and brass accents, offering a serene and inspiring ambiance.

Importantly, this temple is the second built in Pennsylvania, serving approximately 100,000 Latter-day Saints in the greater Pittsburgh area. Pennsylvania is steeped in rich church history, as it was here that Prophet Joseph Smith translated the Book of Mormon and where John the Baptist conferred the Aaronic Priesthood upon him and Oliver Cowdery in a nearby forest—a pivotal moment that led to their baptism in the Susquehanna River.

The rendering of this temple was unveiled to the public on January 19, 2021, and the enthusiasm surrounding it has been palpable ever since. The Pittsburgh Pennsylvania Temple is not merely a building; it embodies the aspirations and dedication of our community. We stand on the brink of an exciting new chapter, eagerly anticipating the day we gather together to celebrate this stunning landmark, which will undoubtedly enrich our lives and strengthen our faith!
