Welcome to the Pocatello Idaho Temple! This beautiful building is a friendly beacon of faith and community, proudly standing as the 170th dedicated temple in operation. You can find it at 3100 Butte St in Pocatello—an address that has become meaningful to many!
The journey to this incredible space began back on April 2, 2017, when the news of the temple’s announcement brought joy to both locals and church members. Fast forward to March 16, 2019, when Elder Wilford W. Andersen held the groundbreaking ceremony, sparking excitement across the community.
Fast forward to September 18 to October 23, 2021, when the temple opened its doors to the public for a special open house. A whopping 250,721 people came to explore and enjoy this sacred space! The heartfelt dedication ceremony on November 7, 2021, led by Apostle M. Russell Ballard, was a truly uplifting moment. Elder Ballard’s prayer wished for divine blessings on everyone visiting the temple, highlighting the warmth and love that thrives in this special place.
Set on 10.94 acres of lovely grounds, the temple’s stunning exterior of white granite from China is sure to catch your eye. The gorgeous central spire, crowned with a gold-leafed Angel Moroni statue, is a sight to behold! Inside, you’ll discover 71,125 square feet of peaceful Temple Work space, complete with four instruction rooms, four sealing rooms, and a lovely baptistry.
Reaching a height of 194 feet 6 inches and sitting at an elevation of 4,989 feet, the temple is easily visible from Interstate 15 and Interstate 86, making it a significant Temple. Surrounding the temple are over 500 trees and thousands of colorful flowers, carefully chosen to create a welcoming atmosphere. The landscape features beautiful species like Norwegian sunset maple and snow queen hydrangea, making every visit feel like a stroll through nature.
Step inside, and you’ll find charming details all around, including a stunning stained glass window of Jesus Christ holding a lamb and a grand staircase clad in beautiful travertine limestone. The temple’s three stories are not just about architectural beauty; they resonate with the spirit of the community and its heartfelt mission.
The history of the Pocatello Idaho Temple is also quite special! Long ago, back in the 1930s, plans for the first temple were set, but due to water issues, it took until 2017 for this beautiful temple to finally break ground.
