Welcome to the Pocatello Idaho Temple! This beautiful temple, the 170th dedicated temple in operation, is a shining gem located at 3100 Butte St in the heart of Pocatello, Idaho.
The journey to this spectacular place of Temple Work began way back on April 2, 2017, when it was officially announced, sparking excitement throughout the community. Fast forward to March 16, 2019, when Elder Wilford W. Andersen led the groundbreaking and dedication of the site, marking a significant moment for everyone involved.
After much anticipation, the temple opened its doors for a public open house from September 18 to October 23, 2021. Over an astonishing 250,721 visitors had the chance to stroll through, making it a truly memorable experience! The dedication ceremony took place on November 7, 2021, with Apostle M. Russell Ballard officiating. His heartfelt prayer included a blessing for all who come to this sacred place, emphasizing love and connection for everyone, especially the youth and children.
Spanning an impressive 10.94 acres, the temple’s gorgeous white granite exterior, sourced from China, is sure to catch your eye. The standout feature is the soaring central spire, topped with a golden Angel Moroni statue, which adds a special touch of elegance. Inside, you’ll find 71,125 square feet of inviting space, including four instruction rooms, four sealing rooms, and a baptistry, all designed to create a peaceful atmosphere for Temple Work and reflection.
Standing tall at 194 feet 6 inches and perched at an elevation of 4,989 feet, the temple is easily visible from Interstate 15 and Interstate 86—a warm welcome to all who pass by. Surrounding the temple are over 500 trees and thousands of blooming flowers, bringing the beauty of nature right to your doorstep. Expect to see lovely species like Norwegian sunset maple and vibrant snow queen hydrangea throughout the grounds.
One of the most touching features of the temple is the stunning stained glass window in the chapel that beautifully depicts Jesus Christ holding a lamb. There’s also a grand staircase clad in travertine limestone, inviting you to experience the temple’s warm and welcoming spirit. With three stories of thoughtfully designed spaces, it perfectly blends modern architecture with artistic beauty, featuring stained glass that showcases Idaho’s native wildflowers.
Interestingly, the roots of the Pocatello Idaho Temple stretch back to the 1930s when plans for the first temple were put on hold due to water challenges. Finally, in 2017, the vision became a reality, and it’s now a cherished part of the community’s fabric.
The Pocatello Idaho Temple isn’t just a place for Temple Work; it’s a warm and welcoming haven for anyone seeking connection, hope, and peace. Whether you come for a visit or to participate in sacred traditions, you’ll find a place filled with love and community spirit here. We can’t wait to welcome you!
