The journey of this remarkable temple began way back on April 7, 1984, when it was officially announced. Fast forward to September 30, 1986, when Prophet Gordon B. Hinckley led the groundbreaking and site dedication. It’s exciting to think about all the anticipation that built up over the years!
From June 15 to July 8, 1989, the temple opened its doors for a public open house, welcoming an incredible 314,232 visitors to experience its beauty firsthand. Just a couple of months later, from August 19 to 21, 1989, the temple was dedicated with great care and reverence, again presided over by President Hinckley.
Set on a lovely 7.3 acres, the temple’s exterior shines with stunning white Vermont marble and a green slate roof that blends beautifully with the surrounding nature. With six elegant spires and four charming domes topped by a sparkling gold-leafed Angel Moroni, it’s a sight to behold!
Inside, you’ll discover a welcoming atmosphere with fourteen sealing rooms, a lovely baptistry, and four instructional rooms—all within its spacious 80,500 square feet. Standing tall at 181 feet, the temple is easy to spot as you drive along I-5, framed by picturesque Douglas fir trees that add to its charm.
