The Portland Oregon Temple stands proudly as the 42nd dedicated Temple in operation. Located at 13600 Kruse Oaks Blvd, Lake Oswego, Oregon 97035, it serves as a significant site for many. The Temple’s journey began with its announcement on April 7, 1984, leading to a groundbreaking and site dedication by Prophet Gordon B. Hinckley on September 30, 1986.

This impressive edifice covers 80,500 square feet and sits at a height of 181 feet, perched at an elevation of 235 feet. The exterior is adorned with white Vermont marble walls, complemented by a striking green Vermont slate roof. Architectural elements include six attached spires, four domes, and a gold-leafed Angel Moroni crowning the top.
Grounds and Surroundings
Set on 7.3 acres, the Temple grounds are home to Douglas fir trees, providing a natural setting that enhances its visual appeal. A reflection pool graces the east side, while the west features an infinity pool, adding to the tranquil atmosphere. The Temple also offers a clear view from I-5, making it easily identifiable for passersby.
Inside the Temple
The interior boasts fourteen sealing rooms, a baptistry, and four instruction rooms, all designed to accommodate various activities. The celestial room is particularly noteworthy, showcasing a two-story layout with three chandeliers, exquisite wall tapestries, and a grand staircase that captures the eye. The alters are crafted from white marble, and the assembly hall offers ample space for those attending various events.
A Rich History
The public open house was held from June 15 through July 8, 1989, drawing a remarkable 314,232 attendees. The Temple was officially dedicated over three days, from August 19 to August 21, 1989, by Prophet Gordon B. Hinckley. Notably, on May 11, 1989, the Church installed the gold-leafed Angel Moroni, adding a special touch to the Temple’s overall splendor.
