Hey there! If you’re in the Lake Oswego area, you absolutely have to check out the stunning Portland Oregon Temple. It’s the 42nd temple in operation, and it’s got some really fascinating history behind it!
You’ll find the temple at 13600 Kruse Oaks Blvd—right in a beautiful spot! Its journey started all the way back on April 7, 1984, when it was first announced. Fast forward to September 30, 1986, when the ground was broken by the beloved Prophet Gordon B. Hinckley.
In 1989, it opened its doors for its public open house from June 15 to July 8, and can you believe over 314,000 people came to explore? That’s a lot of curious visitors! The temple was officially dedicated shortly after, from August 19 to 21, 1989, again led by President Hinckley.
Covering 7.3 acres, this beauty showcases gorgeous white Vermont marble walls paired with a lovely green slate roof. It features six elegant spires, four domes, and, of course, the shining gold-leafed Angel Moroni perched on top—what a sight to see!
Inside, you’ll find fourteen sealing rooms, a lovely baptistry, and four instructional rooms, all within 80,500 square feet of beautifully designed space. Standing tall at 181 feet, with an elevation of 235 feet, it’s truly hard to miss as you drive down I-5. Plus, the grounds are sprinkled with Douglas fir trees, adding to the charm!
Take a stroll around the temple and you’ll discover a peaceful reflection pool on the east side and a unique infinity pool on the west—it’s the perfect spot to unwind and take in the scenery. And don’t forget to stop by the visitor center, but be sure to check online for hours so you don’t miss out!
As the first temple built in Oregon, it really holds a special place in the hearts of many. Inside, the celestial room is absolutely breathtaking, featuring a grand staircase, beautiful wall tapestries, and three sparkling chandeliers.
And here’s a fun fact on May 11, 1989, the church installed that stunning gold-leafed Angel Moroni! Plus, there’s a spacious assembly hall where community gatherings take place, bringing people together in a wonderful way.
So, whether you’re looking to reconnect spiritually or simply want to admire this architectural gem, the Portland Oregon Temple is waiting for you with open arms! It’s such a friendly and welcoming space—definitely worth a visit!
