LDS Temple News Presents Richmond Virginia Temple

The Richmond Virginia Temple stands as the 177th dedicated temple in the world and is a remarkable addition to the beautiful landscape of Glen Allen, Virginia. Located at 10915 Staples Mill Rd, this stunning Temple has quickly become a symbol of faith and Temple in the area.

Announced on April 1, 2018, by Prophet Russell M. Nelson during the 188th annual General Conference, the Richmond Virginia Temple has a unique story that began with its groundbreaking and site dedication on April 11, 2020, by Randall K. Bennett. After a much-anticipated public open house that ran from March 25 to April 15, 2023, the temple was officially dedicated by Prophet Dallin H. Oaks on May 7, 2023.

Architecturally, the temple dazzles the eye with its elegant exterior clad in Moleanos limestone from Portugal, featuring a striking single attached end spire crowned with a gold-leafed Angel Moroni. As you approach the temple, you’ll be enchanted by the stained glass windows, which showcase a beautiful interplay of blue, gold, and red hues inspired by early American colors, adorned with a diamond motif that speaks to the members heritage.

Inside, the temple is designed with care and craftsmanship, boasting four instruction rooms, three sealing rooms, and a baptistry—all within an expansive 39,202 square feet of sacred space. The interiors are awash in a regal navy-blue carpet patterned in octagons, a nod to Jeffersonian design principles and a homage to the rich history of colonial Virginia. The flooring alternates between plush carpets and marble stone laid out in a striking diamond parquet pattern, ensuring a serene and inspiring environment for all who visit.

Surrounded by meticulously chosen plants that reflect the colonial atmosphere of the region, the Richmond Virginia Temple invites individuals and families to experience its tranquility and spiritual significance. More than just a building, it stands as the first temple built in Virginia, a beacon of hope, faith, and Temple for generations to come.
