Exciting Plans for the Salt Lake Temple Open House in 2027
Join us as we anticipate the Salt Lake Temple open house, organized by the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, set to begin on April 5, 2027, and run through October 1, 2027. This momentous occasion will welcome the public back to the grounds of Temple Square for tours and a chance to experience this iconic location.
What to Expect
During this exciting open house, visitors will have the opportunity to tour the Salt Lake Temple and learn about its rich history and stunning renovations that have been in progress since January 1, 2020. The building has undergone significant seismic upgrades and restoration, and all work is slated for completion by the end of this year.
With estimates predicting between 3 million to 5 million visitors, each day will see a flow of 20,000 to 29,000 individuals exploring the temple. This scale of participation rivaling the 2002 Olympics, where around 70,000 visitors were welcomed daily, sets expectations high for this open house.
Efficient Visitor Experience
To ensure a smooth experience for everyone, the Church is working closely with local authorities to manage the anticipated crowds effectively. A new app will be available by late August or early September, allowing guests to book their tour times. Additionally, transportation options will include agreements with UTA for easy access on TRAX, Frontrunner, and bus services. A newly leased park-and-ride lot at South Temple and Redwood Road will offer secure parking with shuttle services to Temple Square.
Special Previews and Tours
In preparation for the open house, church employees will receive complimentary UTA passes to encourage carpooling and ease downtown traffic during this bustling period. Furthermore, local businesses and residents will be invited for early tours in March 2027, providing a unique opportunity to glimpse inside before the public festivities begin.
The tour experience will commence at the Church’s Conference Center, leading guests underground to the temple itself, where they can expect a thorough exploration lasting between 60 to 80 minutes. Special missionaries will serve as guides during the open house, sharing insights and information about the Temple’s significance.
A Lasting Impression
Once visitors step inside the perimeter, they’ll have the chance to explore Temple Square in its entirety, including newly installed statues and additional church buildings, with the entire experience lasting several hours.
This open house is poised to be the largest event of its kind ever held, providing a unique opportunity for millions to engage with the Salt Lake Temple. Mark your calendars and prepare for an unforgettable experience in 2027!
