The Salt Lake Temple: A New Era Unveiled

The Salt Lake Temple, one of the most recognizable structures associated with The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, has recently undergone a significant transformation. After nearly six years, the scaffolding that surrounded this iconic edifice has been removed, allowing the stunning architectural details to shine once again.

The renovation included a comprehensive seismic upgrade, ensuring the building’s integrity and safety for years to come. This significant upgrade not only preserves its historical essence but also enhances its aesthetic appeal. With the scaffolding gone, onlookers can now fully appreciate the intricate design and craftsmanship that went into creating this space.

As the temple approaches its much-anticipated reopening, preparations are in full swing for public tours that will take place from April 5 to October 1 next year. For the first time since shortly before its original dedication in 1893, the public will have an opportunity to step inside and experience the interior spaces.

In addition to the removal of the scaffolding, crews have also dismantled the south tower crane. This massive machine played a crucial role in the renovation, transporting large stones, structural components, and mechanical systems throughout the duration of the project.

Another exciting addition to the temple’s exterior is the vibrant new art glass. This beautiful glass showcases scenes from the life and teachings of Jesus Christ, enhancing the storytelling aspect of the building and bringing a fresh visual narrative to the entrance.

As we draw closer to Holy Week, Temple Square is adorned with Easter displays that resonate with the season’s themes. The anticipation surrounding the Salt Lake Temple is palpable, as it prepares to welcome people into its newly revitalized spaces, lifting the veil on its beauty and significance in a new light.
