Announced to the public on April 7, 1984, the San Diego California Temple marks a significant chapter in the Latter-day Saints’ expansion in California. The groundbreaking and site dedication took place on February 27, 1988, led by the Prophet Ezra Taft Benson. This event marked the beginning of a new spiritual and cultural landmark in San Diego.
Upcoming Events
The Temple will hold a public open house from June 18, 2026, to July 11, 2026, excluding Sundays. This event will allow individuals to explore the beauty and significance of the space. Following this open house, the Temple is set to be re-dedicated on August 23, 2026.

Located at 7474 Charmant Dr, San Diego, California 92122, the San Diego California Temple is built on 7.2 acres and has an impressive total area of 72,000 square feet. Its exterior is crafted from marble chips in plaster, giving it a unique and elegant appearance.
Towers and Spires
The architectural design includes two main towers, each surrounded by four smaller spires that contribute to its distinctive profile. Atop the tallest tower sits a gold-leafed Angel Moroni Statue, which is an emblematic feature in many Temples.
