Situated at 885 S Washington St, Afton, Wyoming 83110, this beautiful facility was officially announced during the General Conference on October 1, 2011, by Prophet Thomas S. Monson. The groundbreaking and site dedication took place on April 25, 2015, led by Craig C. Christensen, paving the way for a monumental addition to the region.
The public open house from September 23 through October 8, 2016, drew an impressive attendance with 78,000 people touring the facility. This enthusiasm reflected the deep interest and excitement surrounding this special place.
Dedication Ceremony
On October 30, 2016, the Star Valley Wyoming Temple was dedicated by Apostle David A. Bednar. His dedicatory prayer conveyed a profound sense of devotion, expressing wishes for righteousness and purity. It was a day filled with hope and commitment to eternal purposes and family unity.
Architectural Features
Covering 43.6 acres, the Star Valley Wyoming Temple features striking architectural elements. Its exterior, crafted from precast concrete panels, adds to its aesthetic appeal. A unique single attached end spire, crowned with a gold-leafed Angel Moroni Statue, was placed atop the Temple on April 25, 2016.
Interior Layout
The Temple encompasses an area of 18,609 square feet and rises to a height of 123 feet, making it a notable addition to the skyline. It sits at an elevation of 6,218 feet. Inside, there is one instruction room, one sealing room, and a singular baptistry, designed to facilitate various ceremonial activities.
Artistic Touches
The foyer features exquisite stained glass that depicts Jesus Christ, originally sourced from a Presbyterian Church in New York City, adding a layer of artistic heritage to the Temple’s design.
A Historical Milestone
Significantly, the Star Valley Wyoming Temple was the first building built in Wyoming, setting a precedent with the Casper Wyoming Temple later following as the second in the state.
