Nestled in the picturesque landscape of Draper, Utah, the Draper Utah Temple stands proudly at 14065 Canyon Vista Ln, Draper, Utah 84020. This remarkable place has captivated many with its striking architecture and serene atmosphere.
A Journey Through History
The story of the Draper Utah Temple began on October 2, 2004, when it was officially announced. Just a few years later, on August 5, 2006, the grounds were dedicated by the esteemed Prophet Gordon B. Hinckley. During this heartfelt ceremony, he noted, “It is a great tribute to our people. They are so faithful in temple attendance and it is for this reason that we construct this beautiful house of the Lord.”
Open Doors and Welcoming Hearts
The public had the opportunity to explore the Draper Utah Temple during an Open House from January 15 to March 14, 2009. Over 684,721 curious individuals toured the Temple, showcasing the community’s interest and appreciation for this magnificent location.
The gold leafed statue of Angel Moroni gracing the top of the Temple was installed on July 8, 2008, adding to its striking presence against the Utah sky. The culmination of this journey arrived with the dedication, which occurred from March 20 to March 22, 2009, led by Prophet Thomas S. Monson.
Architectural Marvel
Spanning 58,300 square feet and soaring to a height of 166 feet, the Draper Utah Temple is a stunning achievement of architectural design. Built on 12 acres, the exterior is finished with white granite from China, complemented by limestone sourced from France. A single central spire proudly displays the Angel Moroni statue.
The interior design features four instruction rooms, five sealing rooms, and one baptistry, thoughtfully crafted to enhance the overall experience. Among these spaces, the largest sealing room accommodates up to 80 patrons, while the baptistry, located on the building’s downhill western side, is flooded with natural light from floor-to-ceiling windows.
Natural Inspiration
Reflecting the local flora, the theme throughout the Temple is the segol lily, which serves as Utah’s state flower. The architectural details also pay homage to the area’s history, as seen in the 221 exterior windows, 50 interior windows, and 432 door panels comprising 35,420 hand-cut pieces of glass, all adorned with the Log Cabin quilt pattern reminiscent of the early pioneers.
Inside, the ordinance rooms are adorned with hand-painted panoramas of breathtaking mountain scenes and stunning views of Draper’s Corner Canyon and the Salt Lake Valley. The distinctive Makore wood from Africa adds warmth and character to the interior, further enhancing the beauty of this space.
