The announcement of the Farmington New Mexico Temple was made by Prophet Russell M. Nelson during the General Conference on April 4, 2021. At that time, the state was home to around 70,000 members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints spread across 138 congregations. The roots of the Church in New Mexico trace back to the 1860s, and the Farmington Temple marks the state’s second Temple—the first being the Albuquerque New Mexico Temple, dedicated on March 5, 2000.
In a significant moment for the local Church community, groundbreaking and site dedication took place on April 30, 2022, led by Anthony D. Perkins. He articulated a deep connection to the region, stating, “To us, this region is home.” Approximately 500 Church leaders and guests gathered to celebrate the construction of this 25,000-square-foot Temple and meetinghouse.

The Farmington New Mexico Temple was officially dedicated on August 17, 2025, by Apostle Neil L. Andersen. His dedication marked a milestone for the state and for those who have waited for the construction of a Temple in Farmington. His words during the ceremony emphasized the importance of unity and commitment to faith, inspiring many attendees.

The Farmington New Mexico Temple spans an impressive 29,066 square feet and stands at a height of 126.6 feet, sitting at an elevation of 5,638 feet. It is designed as a single-story building on 6.63 acres of land, showcasing a blend of modern architecture and local cultural influence.
The Spiritual Significance of Farmington New Mexico’s Temple: What You Need to Know
The exterior features Portuguese white granite, while the landscaping incorporates geometric shapes reminiscent of the area’s architectural style. Bronze Ameristar fencing complements the walkways and plazas, enhancing the aesthetic appeal.
The architectural design includes a single attached end spire, notably without a Gold-leafed Angel Moroni Statue. The interior pays homage to local Native American culture, featuring elements like the piñon pine cone and globemallow flower, with motifs that include feather patterns and geometric line work.

- Instruction and Sealing Rooms: The Temple includes two instruction rooms and two sealing rooms, as well as one baptistry, designed to facilitate various engagements.
