LDS Temple News Presents the Fort Lauderdale Flordia Temple House of the Lord Holiness to the Lord
The Fort Lauderdale Florida Temple is more than just a beautiful structure; it’s a captivating blend of history, architecture, and community spirit! Announced on October 3, 2009, the journey to create this stunning landmark began with a groundbreaking ceremony on July 18, 2011, led by Walter F. Gonzalez. After years of excitement and anticipation, the temple opened its doors to the public from March 19 to April 19, 2014, before its official dedication by Dieter F. Uchtdorf on May 4, 2014.
Nestled on a sprawling 16.82-acre site in Davie, this architectural marvel features a striking precast concrete exterior and a majestic spire topped with a gold-leafed Angel Moroni that reaches 99 feet into the sky! Inside, you’ll discover two instruction rooms, three sealing rooms, and a baptistry—all encompassed within 30,500 square feet of sacred space. The artistic motifs throughout the temple reflect the natural beauty of the Florida landscape, with designs inspired by the sun and palm trees, seamlessly integrated with classic Neoclassical architectural elements like graceful arches and columns.
The land where this temple stands has a story of its own. Originally designated for a middle school in 2003, changing educational needs led the Broward County School Board to abandon those plans by 2009. That’s when the Church expressed interest in acquiring the site, paving the way for the temple’s construction. After a Notice of Termination to the School Board and the payment of educational impact fees, the area was rezoned from community facility to make way for this spiritual sanctuary, while still allowing for future residential development nearby.
Conveniently located just north of Griffin Road and Interstate 75, bordered by the Robbins – Vista View Trail along Shotgun Road, the Fort Lauderdale Florida Temple not only serves as a place of worship but also stands as a tranquil retreat for the entire community. Its grand architecture and rich history add layers of significance, making it a true centerpiece in the vibrant spiritual landscape of South Florida. Whether you’re seeking peace, inspiration, or just a moment of reflection, this temple is a must-visit destination!
