The journey to the completion of the Gilbert Arizona Temple began with its announcement on April 26, 2008, by the Prophet during the General Conference. Following the announcement, the groundbreaking and site dedication took place on November 13, 2010, led by Elder Claudio R.M. Costa. On January 18 through February 15, 2014, a public open house was held, attracting an impressive 407,020 attendees. The formal dedication of the Temple occurred on March 2, 2014, officiated by Prophet Thomas S. Monson, with Henry B. Eyring reading the dedicatory prayer.

Notable for its exterior finish of precast concrete panels, the architectural design features a single attached end spire crowned with a gold-leafed Angel Moroni statue, which was installed on May 15, 2012.
The Temple’s exterior is adorned with decorative art glass made of art leaf, while the interior showcases breathtaking, highly detailed art glass inspired by the native Sonoran Desert landscape. This design beautifully highlights the agave plant and its flowers.
The interior is further embellished with exquisite chandeliers and light fixtures manufactured by Swarovski Architectural Lighting.
