The journey to establish the Hartford Connecticut Temple began on October 2, 2010, with the announcement made by Prophet Thomas S. Monson at the General Conference. Groundbreaking and site dedication occurred shortly after, on August 17, 2013. This long-anticipated Temple was a vision that had been first discussed 18 years before its dedication. Initial plans had been set for the area, but were later revised to include the construction of two other Temples, ensuring that the community’s spiritual needs were met throughout the region.
After years of planning, the public open house for the Hartford Connecticut Temple was held from September 30 to October 22, 2016. The dedication ceremony took place on November 20, 2016, led by Apostle Henry B. Eyring, who eloquently stated, “This Temple is a place of peace, a place of love, and a haven for all who seek God.”
Architectural Features and Design
The Hartford Connecticut Temple is built on an expansive 11.3 acres and spans 32,246 square feet. Towering at a height of 117.2 feet and situated at an elevation of 179 feet, this single-story Temple showcases remarkable architectural elements. The exterior is finished with elegant granite, complemented by a single attached end spire topped with a magnificent Gold-leafed Angel Moroni Statue.
Interior Art and Design
The interior of the Hartford Connecticut Temple features striking design elements that pay homage to the area’s natural beauty. The walls are adorned with original murals painted by local artist Brad Aldridge, showcasing the stunning landscapes of Connecticut. The art glass in the Temple is a testament to craftsmanship, with classic designs inspired by historic fixtures characterized by elegant geometric lines and floral motifs.

Instruction rooms feature hand-blown crystal shades, while the celestial and sealing rooms boast chandeliers designed by Schonbek of New York City, made from brass and Austrian Swarovski crystal. The entryway and baptistry contain modified Georgian-style fixtures created by FFKR Architects.
The interior doors made of charter oak reflect the craftsmanship that defines the Temple, accented by brass hardware for both interior and exterior doors. Additionally, the railings surrounding the baptismal font are crafted from brass, showcasing attention to detail at every turn.
