LDS Temple News Presents the House of the Lord Fort Lauderdale Flordia Temple
Discover the enchanting Fort Lauderdale Florida Temple, a captivating blend of architectural beauty and rich history that makes it a true landmark in South Florida! Announced on October 3, 2009, this breathtaking sanctuary set off on its journey with a groundbreaking ceremony on July 18, 2011, officiated by Walter F. Gonzalez. After much anticipation, it welcomed visitors for a special public open house from March 19 to April 19, 2014, before its official dedication by Dieter F. Uchtdorf on May 4, 2014.
Nestled on a sprawling 16.82-acre site in Davie, the temple features a stunning precast concrete exterior, crowned by a majestic 99-foot spire that gleams with a gold-leafed Angel Moroni. Inside, you’ll find a serene atmosphere with two instruction rooms, three sealing rooms, and a baptistry, all encompassed within 30,500 square feet of sacred space. The artistic motifs throughout the building reflect the vibrant local landscapes, incorporating playful sun and palm tree designs intertwined with elegant Neoclassical elements like arches and columns.
What adds to the charm of this temple is the fascinating story of the land it occupies. Originally planned for a middle school in 2003, the site was left unused due to changing educational needs. However, in 2009, the Church seized the opportunity to acquire the land, leading to a transformation that would change the area forever. A zoning amendment allowed for this beautiful structure while still keeping future residential development options open nearby.
Conveniently located just north of Griffin Road and Interstate 75, and bordered by the peaceful Robbins – Vista View Trail, the temple serves as a serene retreat and a vibrant place of worship for the community. Its impressive design and compelling history not only make it a spiritual haven but also a cherished centerpiece in the cultural tapestry of South Florida. Whether you’re looking for inspiration, a quiet place to reflect, or simply want to appreciate its beauty, the Fort Lauderdale Florida Temple is a must-visit!
