LDS Temple News Presents the House of the Lord Helena Montana Temple

Get ready to dive into the fascinating world of the Helena Montana Temple, a magical place that’s been in the making! Announced by President Russell M. Nelson during the 191st Annual General Conference on April 4, 2021, this temple marks the second of its kind in the beautiful state of Montana. At that time, over 50,000 Latter-day Saints and around 125 congregations were buzzing with excitement for what was to come!

On June 26, 2021, the atmosphere was electric as Elder Vern P. Stanfill of the Seventy led the groundbreaking ceremony. He reflected on the countless individuals who had previously lived in the shadow of those majestic mountains, dreaming and hoping for this special day. With a heart full of gratitude, he declared, “Theirs is a legacy of faith and discipleship of the Savior.” Surrounded by local leaders, including Helena Montana Stake president Bret Romney, this event signaled the start of something incredible!

This stunning 10,000-square-foot temple is being built quickly, right next to a new stake center on a scenic 4.8-acre site at 1260 Otter Road. Elder Stanfill shared a heartfelt wish that this house of the Lord would be recognized as a great blessing to all who behold it, drawing them to learn more about its significance.

Fast forward to April 20, 2021, when the exact location for the Helena Montana Temple was officially revealed: a cozy 4.75-acre site at 1230 Otter Road, where the original stake center once stood. The old stake center made way for a fresh, new construction alongside the temple, while an official exterior rendering sparked even more excitement.

The grand open house kicked off with a buzzing media day on May 15, followed by exclusive tours for invited guests. Then came the thrilling public tours from May 18 to June 3, 2023, inviting everyone to come and soak in the spiritual atmosphere. The pinnacle of joy arrived on June 18, 2023, when Elder Gary E. Stevenson of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles presided over the dedication of the Helena Montana Temple in not one, but two uplifting sessions!

This temple is not just any temple; it stands out uniquely as the first to be built using modular construction methods, showcasing modern ingenuity. Its stunning exterior features chic deco stone cladding, and a prominent central tower reaches majestically towards the sky, towering at an impressive height of 96 feet 9 inches! Inside, you’ll find well-designed spaces, including one instruction room, a sealing room, and a baptistry, all within the total area of 9,794 square feet.

Nestled high at an elevation of 3,768 feet, the Helena Montana Temple is not just a building; it’s a testament to faith, community, and the enduring spirit of the people of Montana. Get ready to be inspired by this incredible addition to the landscape!
