Pittsburgh Pennsylvania Temple

LDS Temple News Presents the House of the Lord Pittsburgh Pennsylvania Temple

Welcome to the Pittsburgh Pennsylvania Temple, an exciting addition to the spiritual landscape as the 196th dedicated temple! Located at 2093 Powell Road in Cranberry Township, this beautiful temple represents a warm and welcoming place for the community of Latter-day Saints.

The journey began on April 5, 2020, when the beloved Prophet Russell M. Nelson announced the temple, sparking joy and anticipation among church members. When the groundbreaking ceremony took place on August 21, 2021, led by Elder Randall K. Bennett, it was a heartfelt occasion that encouraged everyone present to embrace a day of “emotional and spiritual building” within their lives and families.

Mark your calendars for an incredible opportunity to visit the temple during its public open house from August 16 to August 31, 2024! It’s your chance to explore the beautiful space before it’s officially dedicated on September 15, 2024, by the warm-hearted Apostle Dieter F. Uchtdorf.

Spanning 5.8 acres, the temple’s exterior shines with gorgeous granite cladding from Portugal, giving it a classic and inviting look. A unique architectural feature is its single attached central spire, adding an element of charm without the usual gold-leafed Angel Moroni statue.

Inside, you’ll find a spacious 32,240 square feet filled with serenity. The temple includes two instruction rooms, two sealing rooms, and a baptistry—the perfect settings for sacred moments. Walk through vibrant green carpets sprinkled with soft gold accents, and enjoy the cozy feel of nylon rugs in the entry and waiting areas. The elegant Crema Ella marble from Turkey adds a touch of class to the interiors.

One of the most beautiful highlights is the celestial room, adorned with a lovely organic leaf pattern that invites everyone to reflect and find peace. The sealing room and celestial room feature stunning crystal chandeliers, with gentle lighting that creates a warm, soothing atmosphere.

Interestingly, the Pittsburgh Pennsylvania Temple is the second temple built in Pennsylvania, serving around 100,000 Latter-day Saints in the Pittsburgh area. Pennsylvania has a rich history related to the faith; it’s where Prophet Joseph Smith translated the Book of Mormon and where John the Baptist appeared to Joseph Smith and Oliver Cowdery, restoring the Aaronic Priesthood in a nearby forest—leading to their baptism in the Susquehanna River!

The temple rendering was shared with the public on January 19, 2021, exciting everyone and setting the stage for this beautiful spiritual haven. The Pittsburgh Pennsylvania Temple is more than just a building; it’s a symbol of faith, family, and community connection. With the opening day approaching, you can feel the buzz of excitement building among those who cherish this sacred place. We can’t wait for everyone to experience the love and spirit within its walls!
