Discovering the Star Valley Wyoming Temple

The Star Valley Wyoming Temple, the 154th Temple in operation, holds a significant place in the region’s landscape. Located at 885 S Washington St, Afton, Wyoming 83110, this beautiful edifice stands as a testament to faith and devotion.

A Timeline of Significant Moments

The journey of the Star Valley Wyoming Temple began with its announcement on October 1, 2011, during the General Conference by the Prophet Thomas S. Monson. This marked the inception of a dream that many had eagerly awaited.

Groundbreaking Ceremony

On April 25, 2015, the groundbreaking and site dedication took place, officiated by Craig C. Christensen. This event set the wheels in motion for the construction of a revered space, built on 43.6 acres.

Public Open House

The excitement continued as the public open house was held from September 23 to October 8, 2016. An impressive 78,000 attendees toured the interior during this time, showcasing the public’s interest in this remarkable Temple.

The Dedication Event

The Star Valley Wyoming Temple was officially dedicated on October 30, 2016, by the Apostle David A. Bednar. In his dedicatory prayer, he expressed profound love and commitment, stating, “Father, our words cannot express the smallest part of the love we have for Thee and Thy Beloved Son. Our strong desires are for righteousness and purity. We yearn to return to Thee with our families, sealed together for time and for all of eternity. This day our devotion is deepened, and our commitment to Thy eternal purposes is strengthened.”

Architectural Features

The exterior finish of the Temple consists of precast concrete panels, enhancing its aesthetic appeal. Architectural features include a single attached end spire crowned with a gold-leafed Angel Moroni Statue, which was placed atop the Temple on April 25, 2016.

The Temple encompasses an area of 18,609 square feet and stands at a height of 123 feet, all while sitting at an elevation of 6,218 feet. Inside, it includes one instruction room, one sealing room, and a single baptistry.

Stunning Stained Glass

One of the more unique aspects of the Star Valley Wyoming Temple is its stunning stained glass in the foyer, which depicts Jesus Christ and was sourced from a Presbyterian Church in New York City.

A First for Wyoming

Notably, this Temple is the first building of its kind constructed in Wyoming, marking a significant achievement for the area. The Casper Wyoming Temple followed as the second in the state.
