LDS Temple News Presents the Knoxville Tennessee Temple
The Knoxville Tennessee Temple is a significant addition to the landscape of Farragut, Tennessee. Set to be a place of spiritual reflection, this House of the Lord has been under construction since its announcement in April 2022 by Prophet Russell M. Nelson.
Location and Features
Located at 13001 Kingston Pike, Farragut, Tennessee 37934, the House of the Lord spans approximately 4.99 acres. Its prominent elevation of 989 feet offers a striking view of the surrounding area, enhancing its presence.
Current Construction Status
As of now, the exterior cladding of the House of the Lord has been completed, giving us a glimpse of its beautiful architecture. Additionally, the monument sign has been installed, marking its significant role in the community. Interior finish work, however, is still in progress.
Historical Context
The announcement of the Knoxville Tennessee Temple came during the April 2022 General Conference. Following this declaration, the groundbreaking and dedication took place on January 27, 2024, led by Shayne M. Bowen.
Architectural Details
This House of the Lord encompasses approximately 30,836 square feet and includes various spaces designed for specific functions. It features two instruction rooms, two sealing rooms, and one baptistry. Notably, it has a single attached central tower but does not include a gold leafed Angel Moroni Statue.
Community Impact
The Knoxville Tennessee Temple will be the third House of the Lord in Tennessee, joining the Memphis Tennessee Temple and the Nashville Tennessee Temple. At the time of the announcement, the area had about 53,000 members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, supported by over 100 meetinghouses.
