Exciting Developments: The Layton Utah Temple
Get ready to be inspired! At the recent Sunday Afternoon Session of the 188th Annual General Conference, President Russell M. Nelson unveiled thrilling news that is bringing a wave of joy to the community: the Layton Utah Temple is officially in the works! Announced on April 1, 2018, this beautiful temple is poised to become a landmark of faith and hope in the Layton area.
Visualize the temple’s grand design, featuring two stunning attached end spires crowned with a dazzling gold leafed angel Moroni statue. With a spacious interior of 93,539 square feet, the Layton Utah Temple is set to include four instruction rooms, six sealing rooms, and a serene baptistry, all crafted to nurture sacred experiences. Standing tall at 215 feet and nestled in the picturesque elevation of 4,468 feet, the temple will be constructed on a charming 11.8-acre pasture at the corner of Oak Hills Drive and Rosewood Lane, on the southeast side of Layton.
This temple holds a prestigious place in Utah’s rich religious landscape as the twenty-second temple in the state and the second to grace Davis County, following the beloved Bountiful Utah Temple. Excitement surged on October 8, 2019, when an official exterior rendering gave everyone a sneak peek into the breathtaking beauty that awaits.
During the groundbreaking ceremony on May 23, 2020, Elder Craig C. Christensen, president of the Utah Area, expressed warm sentiments that resonated with all in attendance: “We are very grateful to join you from this impressive and beautiful site. Like every temple, it is a product of the faith of Latter-day Saints in this area and beyond.” His heartfelt words reminded everyone of the shared commitment to Heavenly Father’s great plan of happiness. Adding to the moment’s significance, Elder Randy D. Funk offered a dedicatory prayer, asking for the temple to shine as “a beacon of light for the entire community and a blessing for all.”
Have you marked your calendars yet? Elder David A. Bednar of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles will preside over the dedication of the Layton Utah Temple on Sunday, June 16, 2024. Join in the festivities with two special broadcast sessions at 10:00 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. for all congregations in the temple district.
