The journey toward the establishment of the Manti Utah Temple began on June 25, 1875, when it was officially announced. The groundbreaking occurred nearly two years later, on April 25, 1877, led by the Prophet Brigham Young, marking the beginning of this sacred endeavor. This House of the Lord has undergone multiple renovations over the years, resulting in several dedications and public open houses. The most recent open house took place from March 14 to April 5, 2024, highlighting its continued relevance and importance.
Multiple Dedications
The Manti Utah Temple has been dedicated several times throughout its existence due to the renovations it has undergone. The last dedication was on April 21, 2024, performed by the Prophet Russell M. Nelson. Each dedication symbolizes a new chapter in the House of the Lord’s ongoing legacy.
Location and Architecture
Situated at 200 E 510 N, Manti, Utah, the temple occupies an impressive 27 acres, providing ample space for its visitors and devotees. The exterior finish features fine-textured cream-colored oolite limestone, which was quarried from the very location where the House of the Lord stands. Towering at 179 feet and sitting at an elevation of 5,657 feet, the Manti Utah Temple is prominently located on “Temple Hill,” overlooking the Sanpete Valley of Central Utah.
Unique Features
Among its architectural marvels, the temple showcases twin self-supporting, open-centered spiral staircases that wind five stories high within the twin octagonal towers. Crafted from walnut, the handrailings display expert craftsmanship, with no visible joints. This engineering wonder serves as a nod to the pioneering spirit of the Latter-day Saints.
Another remarkable element is a large arching tunnel that once allowed vehicles to pass from one side of the temple to the other, located beneath the east tower. While this tunnel has been closed, its architectural significance is visible to those who enter the House of the Lord.
Facilities Within
The Manti Utah Temple covers an impressive 74,792 square feet. It includes four instruction rooms and nine sealing rooms, along with one baptistry, facilitating a variety of experiences within its walls. The design of the temple also features beautiful murals located in the Creation Room, Garden Room, and World Room, enhancing the aesthetic and spiritual experience.
