The journey to establish the McAllen Texas Temple began with an announcement on October 5, 2019, made by President Russell M. Nelson. Following this, the groundbreaking and site dedication took place on November 21, 2020, under the guidance of Art Rascon. This paved the way for a beautiful space dedicated to spiritual reflection and growth.
Construction and Design
In an exciting reveal on August 28, 2020, an official exterior rendering showcased the temple’s elegant design. The building features beige precast concrete panels, meticulously crafted by Gate Precast of Hillsboro, Texas. The architectural elements include a single attached central tower, giving the temple a defined presence against the skyline.
The McAllen Texas Temple spans a total floor area of 27,897 square feet and reaches a height of 108 feet, sitting at an elevation of 107 feet. It has been constructed with a steel frame, allowing for both durability and aesthetic appeal. The building includes two instruction rooms, two sealing rooms, and one baptistry, accommodating various needs within its walls.
Dedication and Opening
The McAllen Texas Temple opened its doors for a public open house from August 25 to September 9, 2023, allowing individuals to experience the interior before the much-anticipated dedication. The formal dedication took place on October 8, 2023, officiated by Apostle Dieter F. Uchtdorf.
Interior Features
Inside, the temple has been thoughtfully designed to create an inviting atmosphere. Soft-gold broadloom carpet adorns the general areas and instruction rooms, while wall-to-wall wool rugs add a touch of elegance in the celestial and sealing rooms. Vibrant area rugs in blues, golds, and greens enhance the beauty of the spaces, contributing to a serene environment conducive to reflection.
Additional Facilities
In addition to the temple, plans included the construction of a meetinghouse of over 19,000 square feet on the same lot. This facility offers ample space for three wards, a stake suite, mission offices, and a distribution center, further supporting the needs of the local populace.

During the site dedication ceremony, Elder Rascon expressed gratitude for the steadfast dedication of individuals in the area, acknowledging their fervent prayers and hard work. This emphasis on community commitment is intrinsic to the essence of the McAllen Texas Temple.
