Pittsburgh Pennsylvania Temple

LDS Temple News Presents the Pittsburgh Pennsylvania Temple House of the Lord Holiness to the Lord

The Pittsburgh Pennsylvania Temple is not just a building; it’s the 196th dedicated temple, and we couldn’t be more excited about it! Located at 2093 Powell Road in Cranberry Township, this temple is a beautiful addition to our community and a place where many people will feel uplifted.

The journey to this moment began on April 5, 2020, when the Prophet Russell M. Nelson announced the temple. It was a thrilling day for everyone! Then, on August 21, 2021, Elder Randall K. Bennett led the groundbreaking ceremony, encouraging everyone present to let that day be filled with “emotional and spiritual building” in their own lives and families. What a wonderful thought!

Mark your calendars because the temple will open its doors for a public open house from August 16th to August 31st, 2024! This is a fantastic opportunity for everyone to explore this beautiful space before its dedication on September 15, 2024, by the beloved Apostle Dieter F. Uchtdorf.

Sitting on 5.8 acres, the exterior of the temple, with its stunning granite cladding from Portugal, is sure to impress everyone who passes by. The architectural design features a striking central spire, adding to the temple’s charm, and it notably doesn’t have the typical gold-leafed Angel Moroni statue, giving it a unique look!

Inside, the temple spans a generous 32,240 square feet, offering two instruction rooms, two sealing rooms, and a baptistry where sacred ordinances will take place. As you walk through, you’ll notice inviting green-patterned carpeting with soft gold accents, along with cozy nylon rugs in the entry and waiting areas. The elegant Crema Ella marble from Turkey further enhances the warm and welcoming atmosphere.

One of the highlights is the celestial room, which features a lovely organic leaf pattern—perfect for quiet reflection. Plus, the sealing room and celestial room are adorned with beautiful crystal chandeliers, soft frosted glass lighting, and elegant brass accents, creating a serene ambiance that feels just right.

Did you know that this is the second temple built in Pennsylvania? It will serve around 100,000 Latter-day Saints in the Pittsburgh area! Pennsylvania has a rich history of faith; it’s where Prophet Joseph Smith translated the Book of Mormon and where John the Baptist appeared to Joseph Smith and Oliver Cowdery, restoring the Aaronic Priesthood. Talk about a meaningful place!

The temple rendering was released on January 19, 2021, and since then, anticipation has been building and excitement is in the air! The Pittsburgh Pennsylvania Temple is truly a place of hope, faith, and community where everyone can gather and find peace. We can’t wait to see how it becomes a cherished part of so many lives!
