Portland Oregon Temple

LDS Temple News Presents the Portland Oregon Temple House of the Lord Holiness to the Lord

If you’re looking for a peaceful getaway in Lake Oswego, the Portland Oregon Temple is a must-see! This beautiful temple, the 42nd in operation, is located at 13600 Kruse Oaks Blvd, and it’s a true gem in the community.

The journey of the Portland Oregon Temple started back on April 7, 1984, with its announcement, but its groundbreaking wasn’t until September 30, 1986, led by the beloved Prophet Gordon B. Hinckley. For those of you who enjoy a good adventure, you wouldn’t want to miss the public open house that welcomed nearly 314,232 guests from June 15 to July 8, 1989. That’s a lot of friendly faces exploring the temple!

The dedication was a proud moment from August 19 to 21, 1989, and since then, this beautiful structure has welcomed all who come to enjoy its soothing atmosphere. Set on 7.3 stunning acres, the temple’s exterior shines with white Vermont marble and a cozy green Vermont slate roof. You’ll find it hard to miss the six graceful spires and four lovely domes topped with a bright gold-leafed Angel Moroni—perfect for those Instagram moments!

Inside, the temple is just as charming, offering fourteen sealing rooms, a lovely baptistry, and four instructional rooms—all within a spacious 80,500 square feet. At a height of 181 feet and sitting at 235 feet above sea level, the views are just as impressive as the building itself, especially from I-5 where you can catch a glimpse of its beauty.

As you stroll the grounds, you’ll be greeted by towering Douglas fir trees, and you won’t want to miss the reflection pool on the east side or the enchanting infinity pool on the west. Both spots are perfect for some quiet reflection or a lovely photo op! And if you’re curious to learn more, the visitor center is there to welcome you—just don’t forget to check online for opening hours.

Being the first temple built in Oregon holds a special charm, and the celestial room is nothing short of breathtaking, featuring a grand staircase, beautiful wall tapestries, and three stunning chandeliers that light up the space. The altars made of white marble really add to the temple’s elegance!

Oh, and mark your calendar for May 11, 1989, when the gold-leafed Angel Moroni found its home atop the temple, making it even more picture-perfect. Plus, there’s a large assembly hall that’s great for gatherings where you can connect with others in a warm community setting.

So whether you’re seeking spiritual growth, a moment of quiet, or just a beautiful place to visit, the Portland Oregon Temple welcomes everyone with open arms. Come by and experience its magic for yourself!
