LDS Temple News Presents Willamette Valley Oregon Temple

On April 4, 2021, President Russell M. Nelson made the announcement for the construction of the Willamette Valley Oregon Temple. This announcement marked a significant moment for the faith, especially as Oregon is home to over 154,000 members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints across more than 300 congregations.

Groundbreaking Ceremony

The groundbreaking ceremony, led by Elder Valeri V. Cordón, took place on October 29, 2022. This marked the beginning of an important journey for both the local community and the Church.

Architectural Features

The architectural design of the Willamette Valley Oregon Temple features a single attached central spire, giving it a distinctive and elegant silhouette. Inside, the Temple comprises two instruction rooms, two sealing rooms, and a baptistry, all designed to facilitate a unique spiritual experience.

Floral Design

Floral elements within the Temple include Dogwood and Laurel flowers, which enhance the serene atmosphere throughout the building.

Public Engagement and Dedication

The public open house is schedule to begin on April 23, 2026, and will run through May 9, 2026, excluding Sundays. A media day is set for April 20, 2026, where invited guests will tour the Temple on April 21 and April 22.

The formal dedication, officiated by Elder Dieter F. Uchtdorf of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles, will occur on June 7, 2026, at 10:00 a.m., with a rebroadcast at 2:00 p.m.

For many in Oregon, the Willamette Valley Oregon Temple represents a fulfillment of President Nelson’s assertion that “Temples are a vital part of the Restoration of the gospel of Jesus Christ in its fulness.” He emphasized the power and strength that come from temple experiences, which are available in no other way.

In conclusion, the Willamette Valley Oregon Temple stands not just as a building but as a new chapter for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the state and the region. It is anticipated to become a vital space for many, enriching lives through its dedicated purpose.
