The announcement of the Richmond Virginia Temple came on April 1, 2018, during the 188th annual General Conference, delivered by Prophet Russell M. Nelson. The groundbreaking and site dedication took place on April 11, 2020, conducted by Randall K. Bennett. Following a public open house from March 25 to April 15, 2023, the Temple was proudly dedicated on May 7, 2023, by Prophet Dallin H. Oaks.
Architectural Highlights
The exterior of the Richmond Virginia Temple is adorned with Moleanos limestone from Portugal, lending a distinctive character to the design. A prominent feature is its single attached end spire topped with a gold-leafed Angel Moroni. The architectural design incorporates stained glass windows crafted from blue, gold, and red glass, evoking an early American color palette with a diamond motif that echoes historical local designs.
