The Louisville Kentucky Temple, the 76th dedicated temple of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, has a rich history and significant architectural features. The announcement for its construction occurred on March 17, 1999, and the groundbreaking ceremony took place on May 29, 1999, officiated by Elder John K. Carmack of the Seventy.
The temple opened its doors to the public for an open house from March 4 to March 11, 2000, before its formal dedication on March 19, 2000. At that time, Thomas S. Monson, who was an apostle and not yet the prophet, presided over the dedication, while Gordon B. Hinckley served as the current prophet of the Church.
Located on a 3-acre site, the temple features a striking exterior made of imperial Danby marble sourced from Vermont and showcases a single attached spire topped with a gold-leafed statue of the angel Moroni. Inside, the temple includes two instruction rooms, two sealing rooms, and one baptistry, providing various facilities for worship and ceremonies. The total area of the temple spans approximately 10,700 square feet.
Additionally, there is a meetinghouse situated within the same parking lot, and the temple itself is positioned at an elevation of 785 feet, making it a notable landmark in the area.
