Welcome to the Lubbock Texas Temple, proudly standing as the 109th dedicated temple, a remarkable symbol of faith and community in the heart of Texas. Announced on April 2, 2000, the anticipation surrounding its construction sparked enthusiasm throughout the region, promising a sacred space where families can unite and grow spiritually. With the groundbreaking ceremony led by Elder Rex D. Pinegar on November 4, 2000, the foundation of this extraordinary structure was laid, heralding a new chapter for the community.
The excitement culminated during the public open house from March 23rd to March 30th, 2002, as eager visitors explored this architectural gem. The grand dedication on April 21, 2002, led by the esteemed Prophet Gordon B. Hinckley, marked a defining moment in Lubbock’s history. Set on 2.7 acres, the temple is strikingly adorned with Empress white and majestic gray granite from China, an elegant testament to both strength and beauty.
Crowning the temple is a distinctive single spire topped with the angel Moroni statue, a powerful emblem of hope and divine guidance. Inside, the temple features two instruction rooms, two sealing rooms, and a baptistry, all thoughtfully designed within an impressive 16,498 square feet. Elevated at 3,293 feet, this sacred space not only rises above the landscape but also commands respect in the hearts of those who hold it dear.
Elder Pinegar’s inspiring words during the groundbreaking continue to resonate: “A family gathers to see and be part of the beginning of the family home… this temple is the symbol of our heavenly home.” These sentiments encapsulate the profound significance of this sacred space—a sanctuary where love flourishes and divine presence is felt. First President Jay B. Jensen highlighted the overwhelming joy experienced by local members, describing their reactions as dreamlike, a sentiment amplified by the very rain that blessed the groundbreaking.
Conveniently located alongside the Lubbock Texas Stake Center on Frankford Avenue, the temple invites you to stroll its beautifully landscaped grounds, where rich symbolism is found in the stunning stained glass and intricately etched granite walls. Every detail tells a compelling story of resilience, faith, and belonging. The Lubbock Texas Temple is not just a building; it stands as a cherished sanctuary, welcoming all who seek peace, purpose, and a deep sense of community. Come and experience the spirit of this remarkable temple—a true home for the heart and soul.
