Lubbock Texas Temple Temple News

Welcome to the Lubbock Texas Temple, an extraordinary symbol of faith and community as the 109th dedicated temple in operation. This remarkable structure was announced on April 2, 2000, generating immense excitement in the region, and it quickly became a focal point for spiritual growth. The groundbreaking ceremony, led by Elder Rex D. Pinegar on November 4, 2000, marked the beginning of a significant new chapter for the entire community.

The public open house, held from March 23rd to March 30th, 2002, welcomed eager visitors who could hardly contain their anticipation. The official dedication on April 21, 2002, officiated by Prophet Gordon B. Hinckley, solidified the temple’s place in Lubbock’s legacy. Nestled on 2.7 acres, this architectural masterpiece features Empress white and majestic gray granite, exquisitely quarried in China, showcasing both beauty and strength.

With its striking single spire topped by the angel Moroni statue, the temple not only rises above the landscape but also serves as a beacon of divine guidance. Its interior is thoughtfully designed with two instruction rooms, two sealing rooms, and a baptistry, all encompassing an impressive 16,498 square feet. Perched at an elevation of 3,293 feet, the Lubbock Texas Temple stands tall—both literally and metaphorically—in the hearts of the local community.

Elder Pinegar’s poignant words during the groundbreaking resonate powerfully: “A family gathers to see and be part of the beginning of the family home… this temple is the symbol of our heavenly home.” His message captures the essence of this sacred space, which nurtures love, belonging, and spiritual growth. As First President Jay B. Jensen remarked, the announcement left many members in awe, calling it a dream come true, even as rain graced the moment.

Strategically located adjacent to the Lubbock Texas Stake Center on Frankford Avenue, this temple invites visitors to explore its grounds, where rich symbolism unfolds in the stunning stained glass and intricately etched granite walls. Each detail tells a compelling story of resilience, faith, and unity, transforming the Lubbock Texas Temple into more than just a building; it’s a treasured sanctuary that welcomes all who seek peace, purpose, and connection. Experience the profound spirit of this remarkable temple—a true home for the heart and soul.
