The groundbreaking and site dedication took place on November 21, 2020, officiated by Art Rascon. Spanning 10.61 acres, the McAllen Texas Temple has quickly become a recognized site in the area. The architectural design features a single attached central tower, showcasing a striking profile against the Texas skies. The exterior boasts beige precast concrete panels, fabricated by Gate Precast of Hillsboro, Texas, enhancing its elegant appearance.
Architectural Features
With a total floor area of 27,897 square feet, the McAllen Texas Temple features:
- Two instruction rooms
- Two sealing rooms
- One baptistry
Standing at a height of 108 feet and situated at an elevation of 107 feet, this elegant building can be admired from a distance, drawing attention to its impressive design.
The Journey to Dedication
Following a period of anticipation, the public open house was held from August 25 to September 9, 2023. This phase allowed many to experience the beauty and meaning of the space before the official dedication. The temple was dedicated on October 8, 2023, by Apostle Dieter F. Uchtdorf. This event marked a significant milestone for the local members of the faith.
Interior Design Elements
The interior of the McAllen Texas Temple features an inviting design, with soft-gold broadloom carpet laid throughout the general areas and instruction rooms. The celestial and sealing rooms are adorned with wall-to-wall wool rugs, creating an atmosphere of warmth and comfort. Vibrant area rugs in shades of blue, gold, and green provide additional accents, enhancing the overall aesthetic.
A Complementary Space
Additionally, a meetinghouse of over 19,000 square feet will be constructed on the same lot. This facility will include space for three wards, a stake suite, mission offices, and a distribution center, further supporting the needs of the local members.
