On October 5, 2019, President Russell M. Nelson announced an exciting new addition to the landscape of Texas—the McAllen Texas Temple. This momentous occasion marked the beginning of a journey that countless individuals in the community had eagerly awaited. Fast forward to November 21, 2020, when the groundbreaking and site dedication took place, led by Art Rascon, setting the stage for this beautiful sanctuary.

After years of anticipation, the public finally got to experience the McAllen Texas Temple during its Open House from August 25 to September 9, 2023. The excitement culminated in a momentous dedication ceremony on October 8, 2023, presided over by Apostle Dieter F. Uchtdorf—a day that will forever be etched in the hearts of many.

Nestled on a scenic 10.61-acre site, the temple showcases architectural elegance with its striking beige precast concrete exterior crafted by Gate Precast from Hillsboro, Texas. Its design features a single attached central tower that reaches a height of 108 feet, beautifully complementing the surrounding area, which sits at an elevation of 107 feet.

Inside, the McAllen Texas Temple spans nearly 30,000 square feet, offering two instruction rooms, two sealing rooms, and a baptistry, all adorned with luxurious details: soft-gold broadloom carpets grace the general areas and instruction rooms, while the celestial and sealing rooms feature exquisite wall-to-wall wool rugs. Vibrant area rugs in shades of blue, gold, and green add a touch of life and warmth.

But the temple isn’t just a marvel of architecture—it’s a beacon of hope and faith for the Latter-day Saints in McAllen and beyond. As Elder Rascon offered his dedicatory prayer, he expressed gratitude for the enduring dedication of those who have worked tirelessly to establish this sacred space, echoing the heartfelt desires of the community to live out the teachings of Jesus Christ.

And let’s not forget about the additional meetinghouse, seamlessly integrated into the same lot as the temple. Spanning over 19,000 square feet, it will serve three wards, a stake suite, mission offices, and even a distribution center, further enhancing the spiritual and communal life of this vibrant area.

The McAllen Texas Temple is not just a building; it’s a symbol of faith, community, and resilience—a dream realized for many, standing tall as the fifth temple built in Texas, ready to serve generations to come.
